Weekly $50,000 H.O.R.S.E Poker Tournament
The $50,000 guaranteed HORSE poker tournament at Pokerstars is underway. This event runs everySunday at Pokerstars and has a $200 + $15 buy-in. Tonights event has a $6,800 overlay, which is pretty common for this tournament. An overlay is when the total buy-ins do not equal the guaranteed
prize amount. Here is how I did the math:
- 216 entrants
- $200 buy-in (buy-in fee is not included in the calculation)
216 X $200 = $43,200
$50,000 – $43,200 = $6,800
I know what you are thinking, who the hell cares about the math…just tell me about the tournament! Well, the tournament has been running for 2 hours and 20 minutes. The current chip leader is highland with around 12,000 in chips. Out of the 216 entrants only 140 remain. The tournament pays the top 24 places. The first place prize is $12,750 and the prize for 17-24 is $430.
This H.O.R.S.E poker tournament is pretty close, no one player is way out ahead of the rest. This is pretty odd for a tournament of any kind. here are the current top 10 standings:
- highland – 10,939 chips
- birdie – 10,440 chips
- yayaya – 10,413 chips
- bhnndt – 10,092 chips
- desiree777 – 10,025 chips
- sons0136 – 9,905 chips
- TorontoToro – 9,899 chips
- thret – 9,876 chips
- EmmSee – 9,594 chips
- Nutcase – 9,356 chips
I will update this post with the results at the conclusion of the tournament. I am going to put my money on highland though. If any of the players that compete in this
tournament regularly is reading this I would love to do an interview with you. You can email me at Josh @ horsepoker.net.

Tournament Update – Final 12 players
Two hours and 128 players later it is down to 12 players. Out of the top 10 players listed above, only two of them are still in the tournament. Highland (my personal pick for this tournament) is looking great in 2nd place with 114,345 chips and yayaya is down to 14,000. Even though there are only 12 players left this HORSE tourney will probably go on for another hour or two. With a $50,000 prize pool players will be playing very tight, more concerned with moving up one place than trying to win.
The chipleader razzinu could probably benefit from reading my HORSE tournament strategy article. He’s made several bad plays in the last 20 minutes or so. He is in 1st place though so I guess it doesn’t matter. Once 1 more player gets knocked out it will go to the final table. I’m going to head to bed soon though so I’l give you guys an update tomorrow.
