PLH/PLO – The New Mixed Poker Game
I was just browsing around at Poker Stars and I noticed a new mixed poker variant, PLH/PLO. This mixed game consists of pot limit texas Hold’em and pot limit Omaha. PL Hold’em has never been a very popular game so I don’t expect this game to go very far but some players will definitely love it. I believe they are only offering PLH/PLO on a test basis because the limits are restricted to:
- $.10/.25
- $.25/50
- $.50/1.00
- $2.00/4.00
PLH & PLO together require a solid understanding of pot limit strategy. I’m personally not the best pot limit player, regardless of the game, but I will give this game a try once they offer some worthwhile stakes. I can see PLH/PLO becoming popular amongst pot limit Omaha players but not so much for PL Texas Hold’em players.
There are currently two PLH & PLO play money tables set-up so if you are new to mixed game play this would be a good place to start. I just checked on the tournaments and it looks like I’m a little late because there were two PLHE, PLO events in the WCOOP promotion. They both had huge turnouts so I guess I really dropped the ball on this one.
If I had to guess I would put my money on this mixed game being a limited time type of thing. I would bet that one of Pokerstar’s professional players requested that PLHE/PLO be added on a trial basis.
Either way this this just adds a little more variety to the excellent mixed game line-up at Poker Stars.
