• New Mixed Game At Full Tilt – 7-Game Poker

I’m a little late in writing this but there is a new mixed game at Full Tilt Poker, 7-Game Mix Poker. I noticed it during the latest software update and I have been scrambling to write content about it ever since. This game is still hot off the press though and there hasn’t even been a tournament for it scheduled so you haven’t missed much. There has been a lot of action at the high stakes 7-game tables though so if you are looking to learn from the pro’s now is a good time. I am predicting that this game will grow very fast in the next few months,  just like 8-Game Poker did at Pokerstars. Unlike some of their other variants 7-Game Mix is available at their full range of table limits so this will be one of their major games. I have added the following 7-Game articles to the main website:

    • 7-Game Mix Poker – This will be my main page for 7-Game Mix. It contains links to the rules and I will be adding specialized strategy articles as soon as I have the time. I also have included a theory as to why Full Tilt Poker added a game that is so similar to 8-Game Poker at Poker Stars.
    • 7 Game Mix Poker Rules - This is where you can learn how 7 Game Mix is played. If you have ever played 8-Game mix it should be an easy game to play but for the standard H.O.R.S.E poker player there will be some challenges getting used to it since it is a “ML” game.  ML stands for  “Mixed Limit” and basically means that the game includes all three betting limits, fixed limit, pot limit and no limit.

I will briefly cover what 7-Game Poker is in this post but if you want more details information please visit the links above.

    What Is 7-Game Poker?

Below I will list the games included in 7-Game Mix and provide my thoughts on what each game adds to the mix from the standpoint of a mixed poker player.

    • Limit Texas Hold’em - This is one of the core games included in most mixed variants so not too many players should have a problem here.
    • Limit Stud Hi-Lo - Stud poker games are a part of a majority of mixed games so the average H.O.R.S.E player doesn’t have much to worry about here.
    • Limit Razz – There are quite a few popular mixed poker games, especially at Full Tilt Poker, that do not include this game. The Razz rotation is usually the most unpopular in all mixed poker games.
    • Limit Omaha H/L - This also is a common component in many mixed games. I personally love this game. Most poker players have experimented with Omaha HL so this game shouldn’t present a problem.
    • Limit Stud – I would guess that 95% of mixed game players are familiar with Stud, most probably excel at it.
    • No Limit Texas Holdem - This is the most popular poker game (and format)  in the world but many mixed game players will struggle through this rotation.  The average H.O.R.S.E player has little experience with the “no limit” betting format so I just suggest reading through our Texas Holdem strategy section before you dive right in.
    • Pot Limit Omaha – This is probably the biggest curve ball in 7-Game Mix. I’ve always thought that succeeding in PL Omaha required a special type of player and I am certainly not that type. I struggle with PLO because the pots can get pretty crazy. It seems like betting the limit is the thing to do, even with mediocre hands. If you are used to fixed limit games this will definitely be a tough game.

    Play 7-game Poker – $600 Bonus + Special Freerolls

If you want to play 7-Game poker and you don’t already have an account at Full Tilt I have a special bonus offer for you. Visit Full Tilt using this link and when you are creating your account enter the referral code HORSE600. This is the best bonus possible at Full Tilt Poker for 2009. The exclusive freerolls mentioned below are much more “+EV” than the bonus itself in my opinion. Here is what you will receive when you enter our referral code:

    • 100% match up to $600 on your first deposit
    • A life-time seat to the PokerNews private freerolls. These are usually weekly $500 freerolls but lately they have been much larger. On August 30th, they will be hosting a $6,000 freeroll as part of their PokerNews Cup series. On September 13th, they will also be hosting a $11,000 freeroll as part of the same series. These freerolls can be found in the private tournament section. They are open to all players that signup through this site using our referral code and that make a $50 (min) deposit and earn 200 FPP’s.

    7-Game Poker Vs 8-Game Poker

There are only two real differences between 8-Game Poker and 7-Game Poker. One really isn’t a big deal and the other will be very appealing to a lot of current 8-game Mix players at Pokerstars. Here are the differences:

    • Hands/Rotation -When you play 8 Game Poker at Pokerstars you will switch games ever 6 hands. When playing 7 Game Mix you will switch games after 10 hands. I prefer 6 because I get bored easily and am always itching to switch to the next game after 5-6 hands.
    • 2-7 Triple Draw – Although many people are familiar with 5 card draw very few know how to play 2-7 triple draw. This is the missing game in 7-Game Poker. I play a lot of 8-Game Mix at Stars and players tend to either play ultra-tight or very poorly during the triple draw rotation. I would imagine that a lot of 8-game mix players will be switching to 7-game mix for no other reason than to avoid this game.

8-Game mix is easily the more popular of the game variants. You can find a few hundred players at Pokerstar’s 8-Game tables around the clock. 7-Game mix has only just become available so it is somewhat unfair to compare them now but I would imagine that in a couple months these two games will have about the same amount of ring game traffic.

    No 7-Game Sitngo’s Or Tournaments?

For some reason it is taking quite a while for Full Tilt to get 7-Game sitngo’s and tournaments running. I found out about this new game a couple days ago and there still hasn’t been any 7 Game tournaments at Tilt. Maybe they are just testing the waters to see how much interest there is? Maybe they are having difficulties programming it? Whatever the reason is I just wish they would hurry up and host a huge guaranteed tourney to spike interest/awareness. I plan on doing quite well at the 7-Game cash tables once the fish start swimming in to try it out.

    The Pro’s Love 7-Game Poker

There has been a lot of action at the high stakes  7 Game Poker tables in the last few days. Virtually every major professional player has been spotted playing at stakes ranging from $500/1,000 to $2,000/4,000. I would bet that this is a marketing ploy to get people talking about their new mixed game but most FTP pro’s tend to play a lot of high stakes mixed games so I could be wrong.
