FullTilt Poker To Host The Largest Tournament In History
July 19th will be Full Tilt Poker’s 5th B-day. They are attempting to host the largest poker tournament in the history of gambling. This historic event will be monitored and verified by officials from the Guinness World Record™ association. Full Tilt Poker is the 2nd largest online poker room and accepts U.S. players. On average there are over 75,000 players at the tables during the peak hours, which is only about 1/2 of what their main rival Pokerstars boasts.
Pokerstars has hosts tournaments with 15,000 – 20,000 players in the field on a regular basis so I am not sure Full Tilt Poker can muster enough players to top Pokerstars.
Pokerstars currently holds the Guinness World Record for the largest poker tournament. In December of 2008 they ran a similar promotion and ended up with a record breaking 35,000 players. I’m somewhat skeptical that Full Tilt will be able to outdo Pokerstars in tournament traffic. Pokerstars is well known for being the “capital” of poker tournament action on the internet.
I’m rooting for Full Tilt though and I will be playing in this event. Here are some details on it:
$500,000 Record Breaking Tournament
The tournament starts at 15:05 on July 19th. They are expecting seating to last around 15 minutes so the first hand won’t be dealt until 15:20 ET.
- Buy-in : $5 or 1,000 Full Tilt points
- Guaranteed Prize Pool: $500,000 (including $250,00 added)
- Maximum Players/Goal: 50,000 players
I just checked and there are currently over 16,000 players registered in the Record Breaker tournament so they are off to a good start.
