  • 8-Game Mix Poker

I played in a $10 8-Game mix tournament at Pokerstars the other day. I was amazed by the fact that there were so many players that didn’t even have a clue on how to play some of the games. One guy was playing 27 triple draw like it was 5 card draw. There was another guy playing razz like it was 7 Card Stud. I was chipleader for the first hour and a half but then I hit some bad luck and donked off my stack.

If you are a well rounded poker player understands the basics of each game I strongly suggest you give it a try. There are usually 5-10 cash game tables running at Pokerstars and they are running a few tournaments a day. Some of these players are practically giving their money way due to the fact they don’t understand all the games. I’m guessing they are mostly Hold’em donks that think they can figure it out as they go along.

There is this misconception that Texas Holdem is a complex game. Its actually the simplest game available to play online. Either way, the 8-game mix action at Pokerstars is sick. The game most people get stuck on is 2-7 triple draw. Its a tricky game if you don’t play it all the time.

Without a doubt mixed games will grow in popularity. In the past I have been one of the crazies who played six handed at six different games. 8 game came pretty naturally. For now I am taking a little more serious approach to my game. I chose to play no limit holdem, not because I am better at it but because It is easier to win when I am multitabling.

8 Game is a great addition to Pokerstars. Many people I started playing poker with have moved away from holdem due to the boredom and predictable bad beats. Playing 8 game might re-spark their waning interest in poker.

I highly recommend 8 Game to others. I’m in total agreement with the post above.

My first comment! Thanks Ed(mc?). I love 8-game mix simply because of the variety. With all the poker calculators and programs out there Texas Holdem has become extremely boring. There are a lot of donks at the Holdem tables but its pretty much an exact science these days. If your looking for extremely soft action you have to master some of the more uncommon games. Once you do that you can dominate mixed games like HORSE and 8-game poker.
