  • $425,000 GTD 8-Game Mix Poker Tournaments

Pokerstars is hosting the larges 8-game mix poker tournaments in the history of online poker. These are part of their popular Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) event. This will consist of 3 separate tournaments that have a combined prize pool of $425,000 (GTD). Here are the details below:

    Small Stakes – $44 buy-in, $25,000 (GTD)
    Medium Stakes – $425 buy-in, $150,000 (GTD)
    High Stakes – $4,175 buy-in, $250,000 (GTD)

All 3 tournaments will start on April 9th at 14:30 Eastern Time. Since 8-game mix poker is a relatively new mixed poker game developed by Pokerstars these guaranteed prize pools are the largest in online poker history. I am shocked that Pokerstars made them this large since not too many people play 8 game poker. Granted it is one of the most popular mixed games played online and it is growing at a fast pace but its still a very difficult game to master.

I would imagine the select few players that really dominate the 8-game mix ring tables are ecstatic about these tournaments. You will find a lot of players at the 8-game mix cash games that really shouldn’t be playing at all. They might be good at 4/8 of the games but thats not good enough to walk away a winner. Its take a well rounded player to be able to play 8-game mix well. Even the best players have weak spots but even being able to play each game at the average skill level means you should to win money on a regular basis.

These tournaments are bound to be filled with fish. there are sure to be huge overlays as well. An overlay is when a tournament has a guaranteed prize pool but the money from the registrations is less than that amount. This creates a lot of extra value and attracts players that wouldn’t normally play in the tournament, which means more weak players at the tables.

Pokerstars is running several satellite tournaments and feeders to these events for players that can’t afford the high buy-ins. I will be covering all 3 tournaments so check back here for the results.
